KHARA (SAVORY) BISCUIT

Khara Biscuit

Bored of baking sweet / sugary cookies, I decided to bake some spicy biscuits… and got this recipe from my friend and it came out so cute, lovely and spicy that every one at my place liked it.  It doesn’t have any raising agent and required very less fat.  My husband prefers spice over sweet and so he liked it so much… crunchy and spicy khara biscuit.

INGREDIENTS
All Purpose Flour 2 cups
Butter 1/3 cup
Sugar 4 tsp
Salt 1 tsp
Green Chillies 8
Fresh Coriander Leaves 1/2 cup
Yogurt 2 tbsp
Chilli Flakes As required

METHOD

  • Pre-heat oven to 170°C and line cookie sheet with parchment paper.
  • Finely chop green chillies and coriander.
  • Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.  Add a tbsp of curd and mix well.
  • Mix all the dry ingredients – all purpose flour, salt, green chillies and coriander leaves well in a separate bowl.
  • Now, mix dry and wet ingredients together and kneed well using hands.  Add more curd if required and make the dough little soft.  The dough should be hard and crumbly and not too soft.
  • Roll the dough about 1/4” thick on a floured surface and cut it with a cookie cutter.
  • Place it on the cookie sheet, sprinkle chilli flakes and bake for about 12 – 16 minutes or till the edges turn golden.
  • Remove and place it on cooling rack.
  • Once cold, store them in an air tight container.
