I read about Anjeer Halwa in Tarla Dalal’s web page and made very minimal changes to suit my taste buds… and since I had anjeer at home thought of trying it. Fig has got so many health benefits… they are high in potassium so helps to reduce insulin level and have anti-diabetic properties, rich in calcium and strengthens bones. They are so good to treat acne prone skin… one can go on and on about benefits of fig. Here is a easy, quick and simple fig halwa recipe…
INGREDIENTS | |
Fig | 14 |
Almond | 1/4 cup |
Ghee | 2 tsp |
Milk Powder | 20g (2 tbsp) |
Sugar | 1 to 1 1/2 tbsp |
Water | 1/2 cup |
Cardomom Powder | 1/4 tsp |
Almond slivers | 1 tbsp |
METHOD
- Chop fig roughly. Boil 3/4 cup of water, add chopped figs and let it cook for about 3 – 4 minutes or till the figs turn soft. Set aside to cool.
- Blanch almonds, peel the skin and let it dry for about 10 – 15 minutes.
- Now, powder the blanched almonds to a coarse or fine powder.
- Drain the water from the fig (do not throw the water) and grind it to a smooth paste.
- Heat ghee in a heavy bottomed pan / kadai. Add in almond powder. Sauté for about 2 minutes.
- Then add, anjeer paste, milk powder, sugar and 1/2 cup of water (you can use the drained fig water).
- Mix well and let it cook for about 10 – 15 minutes. Add cardamom powder and mix well.
- Remove from fire and garnish with slivered almonds.
- Serve hot or at room temperature.
NOTES
- I used nestle everyday dairy milk whitener.
- Since I used the same water in which anjeer was cooked, I reduced the quantity of sugar from 2 tbsp (as per the original recipe) to 1 tbsp.
- I blanched the almonds in normal water for about 3 hrs and dried it in a piece of clean kitchen cloth towel.
